Though I dwell in darkness, the LORD is a light for me.

WHEN
you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior --I will lead the blind by a way they do not know, in paths they do not know I will guide them. I will make darkness into light before them and rugged places into plains. These are the things I will do and I will not leave them undone.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me. Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me --When I am afraid, I will put my trust in Thee. In God, Whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me? --The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life. Whom shall I dread?

Mic 7.8. Isa 43.2, 3.--Isa 42.16. Ps. 23.4.--
Ps. 56.3, 4.--Ps. 27.1.

There is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

HEAR, O Israel: The LORD our God the LORD is one! --A mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one.

We have sinned like our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly. Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Thy wonders; They did not remember Thine abundant kindnesses... Therefore He said that He would destroy them, had not Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him, to turn away His wrath from destroying them.

Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house.

He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises --I will be merciful to their iniquities and I will remember their sins no more.

DAILY WALK

STILLING LIFE'S STORMS

"He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waters thereof are still. Then they are glad because they be quiet; so He bringeth them unto their desired haven."-- Ps 107:29, 30.

THIS PSALM contains five wonderful pictures of life. First, we see the travelers who have lost their way (Ps 107:4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9); next, prisoners and captives who sit in darkness (Ps 107:10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16); then we see a sick-room (Ps 107:17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22); next, a terrific storm at sea (Ps 107:23-32); and finally, the lovely picture of a desert land being turned into a fertile landscape (Ps 107:33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38). The refrain, calling upon men to praise the Lord for His goodness, is repeated four times, and the Psalm closes with the fervent thought that all who are wise will give heed to the various dealings of God, as shown in these Acts of His loving-kindness.

In all lives there are periods of tumult and storm. We are whirled about by angry billows, and it seems as though we shall never reach the harbour of peace and rest. Some give themselves up to such experiences as a fate which they cannot avoid, or attempt to drown their fears and dull their senses to suffering and danger. But faith cleaves its way through the murky mists and driving cloud-wrack, and establishes a sure connection with the throne of the Eternal Father. This is what the New Testament calls the anchorage of the soul, and however severe the storm that sweeps over the earth, the soul that shelters there is safe. "Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses."

At this moment you may be passing through a storm of outward trouble. Wave after wave beats upon you, as one calamity is followed by another, until it seems as though the tittle barque of your life must he overwhelmed. Look up to God and cry to Him. He sees you, and will not allow you to be engulfed.

Or you may be experiencing inward sorrow. Your affections have been misplaced; the one you love has deceived and failed you, and the sky is now dark and stormy. The one resort of the soul when it is hard driven, is to look up to Him who holds the winds in His fist, the waters in the hollow of His hand, and who cannot forget or forsake those who cry to Him.

PRAYER

O God, we will praise Thy Name for Thy goodness to us, and for Thy wonderful works to the children of men. May Thy gentle voice hush our fears, and still life's storms into a great calm. AMEN.

Hunger Satisfied

"For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness"   (Psalm 107:9).

It is well to have longings, and the more intense they are the better. The LORD will satisfy soul-longings, however great and all-absorbing they may be. Let us greatly long, for God will greatly give. We are never in a right state of mind when we are contented with ourselves and are free from longings. Desires for more grace and groanings which cannot be uttered are growing pains, and we should wish to feel them more and more. Blessed Spirit, make us sigh and cry after better things and for more of the best things! Hunger is by no means a pleasant sensation. Yet blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness. Such persons shall not only have their hunger relieved with a little food, but they shall be filled. They shall not be filled with any sort of rough stuff, but their diet shall be worthy of their good LORD, for they shall be filled with goodness by Jehovah Himself. Come, let us not fret because we long and hunger, but let us hear the voice of the psalmist as he also longs and hungers to see God magnified. "Oh, that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men."

NOVEMBER The Twentieth
THE REAL ARISTOCRACY

“Abraham, my friend.”
—Isaiah 40:8, 9, 10, 11,12, 13, 14, 15, 16.

THINK that is the noblest title ever given to mortal man. It is the speech of the Lord God concerning one of His children. It is something to be coveted even to enjoy the friendship of a noble man; but to have the friendship of God, and to have the holy God name us as His friends, is surely the brightest jewel that can ever shine in a mortal’s crown. And such recognition and such glory may be the wonderful lot of thee and me.

“Abraham, my friend.” The Lord of hosts found delight in human friendships. He comes in to sup with us. He drinks of the cup of our delights. For, surely, it is one of the supreme characteristics of true friendship that it rejoices at the other’s joy. And my heavenly Friend is glad in my gladness as well as sympathetic in the day of sadness and tears. Yes, He comes in to sup with me, and I may sup with Him.

“Abraham, my friend.” And He shares His sweets with His friend, in inward counsels, and in tender revelations of His purposes and in the gifts of joy and peace. There is perfect openness between these friends; nothing is hid. They have the run of each other’s hearts.

I tell Him all my joys and fears,
And He reveals His love to me.

(1) GLOBAL PRAYER DIGEST - Nov 20 Khunsari People of Iran ...

What happens when a child is ill and there are no doctors or hospitals nearby? What happens when they are inflicted with contagious diseases such as scarlet fever, whooping cough, pulmonary tuberculosis, or typhoid fever? Many times the child may die. Due to the lack of available treatment for these diseases the infant mortality rate where the Khunsari people live is high even by Central Asian standards. Not only does the lack of medical care shorten the life of children, but it also shortens the life expectancy for adults, which is a mere 65 years. Such is the life of the Khunsari people of Iran.

The Khunsaris also live in an area that is 100 percent Muslim. Their area is closed to anyone who desires to share the message of Christ. Since the message is not allowed to be shared or Christian resources available, the Khunsaris continue to live with a cloak of spiritual darkness surrounding them. They would not understand the idea of freedom in Christ.

Pray!

Ask God to remove the spiritual darkness from the hearts and minds of the Khunsari people. Pray that believers with medical skills will soon be able to bring them much needed services and introduce them to the Great Physician. Pray that Christ will be glorified by those who help the Khunsari people find their savior.-NW

Psalms 73: 24,25b "You guide me with Your counsel, and after word you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you?"

God is our guide, and He will take us to heaven for our eternal reward. But before we have our eternal reward, He has lots of work for us here on earth. He has given us the task of being salt and light to the nations so that the peoples will glorify His Name. Have you ever thought that when we heal the sick, give to the poor, find cures for diseases, fight for justice, you name it, we glorify our Heavenly Father? What are you doing right now to bring glory to His Name?

Pray!

Pray that the Lord will guide someone to glorify Christ among the Khunsari people of Iran

A Prayer
For Our Nation

May the Spirit of holiness prompt all who read it to join in solemn, earnest intercession on behalf of America (cp Joel 1:14, 2:15)...

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance.  We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done.  We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.  We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.  We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem.  We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.  We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.  We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free (in Christ Jesus our Lord). Amen!

Note: Some have attributed this prayer to Billy Graham, but others attribute it (or a similar prayer) to Joe Wright and still others to a prayer by Bob Russell before the Kansas House of Representatives in 1996 - God knows who prayed it, so that is not the real issue...Our Father desires to hear all of His children crying out with similar contrition and brokenness over our sins against His holy Name...

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. (1Ti 2:1,2, cp Daniel's great prayer in Da 9:3-19)
