Explanation: The following book links represent a compilation of Christian books available at no charge on the internet. You will note that there are a number of Christian biographies which in my opinion, other than the Scripture itself, are an especially rich source of encouragement in how to live the practical, everyday Christian life. If you know of other biographies available on the web, please send the link and they will be posted to for the edification of the body of Christ. Thank you in advance.

Remember that I have not read every resource on this page, so if you find a work that you feel is questionable and specifically does not square with Scripture, as a good Berean, please email your concern and the work will be examined and removed if found to be Scripturally unbalanced or unorthodox.

Although the "vitality" of the resource links is checked periodically, it is very difficult to keep a few dead links from sneaking in because web sites either change their addresses or go "off the air" altogether. Please email (see bottom of page) any dead links so they can either be updated or deleted. The links have been revised and updated on 7/06/06.

A God-Entranced Vision of All Things - The Legacy of Jonathan Edwards

Jonathan Edwards knew and preached the beauties of heaven as much as the terrors of hell. He was a humble and joyful servant, striving to glorify God in his personal life and public ministry. This book investigates the character and teachings of the man who preached from a deep concern for the unsaved and a passionate desire for God.

A Hunger for God

A Hunger For God was written to help Christians understand the Biblical nature and purpose of fasting and prayer. In this book, John Piper looks at the phenomena of religious, political, and health-based fasting, which occur around the world, and explains what makes Christian fasting unique. He then discusses the reasons and ways the Bible commends fasting to us. Ultimately, Piper asserts, fasting is a way of expressing to God that he is the supreme hunger of our hearts—that we are starving for him.

Counted Righteous in Christ

Should We Abandon the Imputation of Christ's Righteousness? Does Christ's life-long record of perfect obedience to God get "credited" to your account when you trust in Christ and are "justified" by God? This has been the historic Protestant understanding of the "imputation of Christ's righteousness," but John Piper warns that we are in danger of losing this doctrine today, because of attacks by scholars within the evangelical camp. In response, Piper shows, in careful treatment of passage after passage, that the imputation of Christ's righteousness to believers is clearly the teaching of the Bible, and if we abandon this doctrine we will also lose justification by faith alone. I am thankful to God for John Piper's defense of this crucial doctrine. - Wayne Grudem, Research Professor of Theology and Bible, Phoenix Seminary.

Don't Waste Your Life

God created us to live with a single passion: to joyfully display his supreme excellence in all spheres of life. The wasted life is the life without this passion. God calls us to pray and think and dream and plan and work, not to be made much of, but to make much of him in every part of our lives.

Desiring God: Meditations of A Christian Hedonist

The great business of life is to glorify God by enjoying him forever. Discord between duty and delight doesn't exist: delight is our duty. Piper stuns us again and again with things we saw in the Bible, but never dared to believe. Join him on this dangerous quest for maximum joy in God. But beware, it may cost you your life. Never mind - "the steadfast love of the Lord is better than life" (Psalm 63:3).

Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die

Leader's Guide

God's Passion for His Glory

In his essay, "The End for Which God Created the World," the great theologian Jonathan Edwards proclaimed that God's ultimate end is the manifestation of his glory in the highest happiness of his creatures. Here John Piper passionately demonstrates the relevance of Edwards' ideals for the personal and public life of modern evangelicals through his own book-length introduction to Edwards' incomparable essay, and the inclusion of that original, unabridged work. The result is a powerful and persuasive presentation of the things that matter most in the Christian life.

Life as a Vapor

You will exist forever. You and God are both in the universe to stay either as friends on his terms, or enemies on yours. Which it will be is proven in this life. And this life is a vapor. Two seconds, and we will be gone. Surely God means for our time on earth to count for something significant. In these thirty-one meditations, John Piper will connect you to a fresh understanding of God and a renewed relationship with him. You'll find your faith stirred to make every day count for Christ as you consider life as a vapor. (Note the following is excerpted from Life as a Vapor (c) 2004 by Desiring God Foundation. Passion of Jesus Christ, The

Why did Christ suffer and die? The central issue of Jesus’ death is not the cause, but the meaning—God’s meaning. That is what this book is about. John Piper has gathered from the New Testament fifty reasons. Not fifty causes, but fifty purposes—in answer to the most important question that each of us must face: What did God achieve for sinners like us in sending his Son to die?

Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ

The new edition of Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ is conceived as a fitting follow up book for those who have read The Passion of Jesus Christ. We asked: What might people, who were introduced to Jesus with 50 reasons for his death, want to know next? Our answer: They might want to know more about who Jesus was as a person and teacher and Son of God. With a view to making the new edition as useful as possible, we took the more challenging introduction about why we credit the gospels and put that at the back. This lets the reader jump right into the portraits of Jesus himself. The book was arranged so that it has exactly the same number of pages as The Passion of Jesus Christ, and the same look and feel inside. We pray that for hundreds of thousands of people who tasted the meaning of Christ's death through The Passion of Jesus Christ, this new inexpensive edition of Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ will make more of the fullness of Christ known.

Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood - Click Online Book

Evangelical feminism has had a profound impact on the Church. In this book, 22 men and women commit their talents to produce the most thorough response yet to evangelical feminism. The writers identify their view as complementarian rather than "traditional" or "hierarchical." The book combines systematic argumentation with popular application and deals with all the main passages of Scripture brought forward in this controversy. An important and informative book for those concerned with the fundamental questions of the relationship between men and women in home, church and society.

When I Don't Desire God

What do you do when you discover that you're not satisfied in God the way he wants you to be? Joy is more than an afterthought of the Christian life; it is the sustaining fruit of a relationship with God. With a radical passion for Christ's glory, John Piper helps you find the joy God wants you to have.
